ITINERARY:
1st Day: BUDAPEST
Boarding the ship between 6.00 and 7.00pm and time to
settle comfortably in your cabins before meeting the crew
during a welcome cocktail reception. Dinner will then be
served onboard. Enjoy a free evening or take a guided
tour of the sights of Budapest (optional) at night. Overnight
stop.
2nd Day: BUDAPEST – MOHACS
Breakfast on board before spending the morning on an optional
sightseeing tour of the capital of Hungary, a truly
wonderful city which is cut into two parts by the Danube.
Buda with its rolling hills and valleys, and Pest with its flatter
landscape that offers a panoramic view over the banks of
the Danube were awarded world heritage status by Unesco.
Return to the ship for lunch. The afternoon will be spent
visiting (optional) the royal palace of Godollo. This
marvellous castle of Count Antal Grassalkovich was the
favourite summer residence of the Austrian Empress Sissi.
Dinner on board before sailing on to Mohacs, the most
southern town onthe Danube.
3rd Day: MOHACS – BEZDAN – NOVI SAD
Breakfast on board before leaving Mohacs to visit Pecs
(optional) by coach. This town, which is the regional
centre of southern Hungary, is also the birthplace of the
famous painter Victor Vasarely. Visit its main square and
cathedral. This 2 century year old town, set at the foot
of the Mecsek hills, whose climate and atmosphere are
typically Mediterranean, has been a bishopric since 1009.
Return to the ship for lunch before sailing on to Bezdan, on
the border between customs post. Cruise on to Novi Sad
(Serbia). Dinner on board. Overnight stop.
4th Day: NOVI SAD – TITEL – KANJIZA
After breakfast, set off by coach to visit Novi Sad (optional),
which is set in the southern part of the great Plain,
in the region of Baga, on the left bank of the Danube. Return
for lunch on board at the end of the morning before
cruising on at 12.30pm to join the Tisza., the largest river
in Hungary, through unforgettable countryside. Dinner
on board and an entertaining evening cruising towards to
Kanjiza. Overnight stop.
5th Day: KANJIZA – SZEGED
Breakfast on board while cruising, crossing the customs
post at the border in Kanjiza. Moor in Szeged around
8.00am. This “sunny city” is the biggest in the Great Hungarian
Plain, and lies at the confluence of the Tisza and
the Maros. Depart on the guided tour of the city (optional),
famous for its summer festival organised around
the cathedral and the park (mid-July to mid-August) in the
in the main square. Take a stroll along the banks of the
Tisza and through the pedestrian streets of the city. Visit
the famous Pick salami and Szeged paprika museum which
has been producing these traditional products since 1869.
Dinner onboard and a free evening. Overnight stop.
6th Day: SZEGED – CSONGRAD – SZOLNOK
Early morning start cruising before reaching Csanytelek
by 7.00am. Breakfast on board and then leave the ship on
an excursion to Opusztaszer (included) natural history
memorial park. Its open air ethnographic collections are
amazing! Visit a paprika producing farm, a typical school
from the farm region, a blacksmith’s forge and a cartmaker’s
workshop, a demonstration of carts, and a fisherman’s
cottage. All in keeping with the original life style in
the Alfold plain in the 19th century. Do not forget to admire
the famous “panoramic painting” by Magyar which depicts
the conquest of the Carpathians, which was painted especially
for the Hungarian millennium exhibition in 1896.
Return to the ship in Csongrad for lunch on board before
sailing on across the Great Plain of Southern Hungary,
through landscape which “is as flat as the sea”. The river
brings this sandy landscape to life and provides fish
for the local speciality, fish soup. This particular region
of Hungary benefits from the longest days. Then sail on
to reach Szolnok, in the North of the Great Plain, in the
evening. Dinner on board. Overnight stop.
7th Day: SZOLNOK –TISZAFÜRED – LAKE TISZA
Early morning start and breakfast while cruising on lakes
and rivers. You will be captivated by the enchanting beauty
of this unspoiled countryside – indeed a true paradise
in the middle of the Alfold plain and the second biggest
area of water in the country. Lunch on board before arriving
in Tiszafured around 2.00pm. It is a yachting port
set in natural surroundings and highly appreciated for its
peaceful atmosphere. Lunch on board before leaving on
an excursion to Hortobagy, one of the largest stretches
of meadow land in Europe (over 1,400km2) called “puszta”.
The Hortobagy National park stretches over some 82,000
hectares and has been listed World heritage since 1999.
Set in the heart of Europe, it conceals countless hidden
secrets and treasures. Return to the ship in Tiszafured for
dinner and an evening of entertainment. Overnight stop.
8th Day: TISZAFÜRED – TOKAJ
Early morning start heading towards Tokaj and breakfast
while cruising, arriving there around 2.00pm. Tokaj is
set high up on a loess hillock which leads into the Great
Plain. The wine-growing region of Tokaj-Hegyalja is
the birthplace of the 450 year old “tokaj aszu” a world
famous sweet dessert wine. Follow your escort and visit
this charming town, with its old houses, thick stone walls
and baroque buildings. Optional guided visit to the Rakooczi
wine cellar, a natural cave in which the Tokaj
wines mellow and mature, before tasting some of these
delicious vintages. Return to the ship for dinner and a gala
evening. Overnight stop.
9th Day: TOKAJ – BUDAPEST
Breakfast on board before disembarking. End of our
services.
